All,

I am wondering if you have more than one level for your mechanics? If so, what is the criteria for moving from one level to the other? We have Auto Tech 1 and Auto Tech 2.  I am wanting to change the way we advance from a level 1 to a level 2. It is currently based on reviews and ASE certification. I was wondering if anyone has any alternative to ASE?

Thanks for taking time to answer this.

Previous role I oversaw had a M1 and M2. It required 2 years of M1 experience, but once you got past that, really came down to a proficiency as deemed by the supervisor. I had a tech that let some questionable work out the door during the last 6 months of his 2 year so I withheld his promotion with documentation until I felt like those issues were behind him, on a 6 month re-evaluation cycle.
