JOB SUMMARY:
The Village of Carpentersville is seeking an ASE certified Fleet Mechanic to work in the Fleet division of the Public Works Department. Under the supervision of the Construction Maintenance Superintendent, the Fleet Mechanic will perform skilled and technical maintenance, repair, and overhaul of gasoline and diesel powered vehicles, light and heavy vehicles and equipment, and related components. Responsibilities include but are not limited to vehicle and equipment service, diagnostics, and repair; modification and fabrication of equipment and parts; welding; tool maintenance, inventory oversight, and procurement of all applicable parts, supplies, tools, and equipment needed to perform the task.
REQUIREMENTS:
The requirements for this position include a high school diploma or G.E.D. and a minimum of 5 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel powered equipment at the Journeyman level. This position requires a valid State of Illinois Driver’s License upon hire, and an Illinois CDL Class A with tanker endorsement will be required within six (6) months of start date. Mechanic certification by the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is required in at least four (4) fields including truck and automobile. Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification is preferred.
The successful candidate must have a comprehensive knowledge of shop practices and techniques, as well as tools and machinery used in vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair. The candidate must also have working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures, diagnostic testing, welding, and hydraulic machinery and equipment. The candidate must have the ability to work independently and effectively communicate. The candidate will work in a fast-paced environment where organization, and time-management skills are expected.
